Why Jesus?

Why do I need Jesus? Isn’t my belief in God enough?

Sadly, the answer is no. Here’s why.

God is different from you and I. He is not a created being. He existed before anything else and is the creator of all things. He created human beings out of His overflow of love. God’s original plan was to dwell among His creation in perfect, loving relationship with them. For them to live in perfect joy under His holy and righteous rule. God created Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, and placed them in the garden of Eden with everything they needed. There was no struggle, disease, or death. He gave them only one command: to not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God’s perfect order changed when Adam and Eve disobeyed this command and sin entered into the world.

As a result of that one sin, every human being thereafter is born with a sinful nature. The unfortunate truth is that every single one of us has sinned before and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 NIV). Even the presence of just one sin separates us from God and the ability to have relationship with Him. As the creator of all things, God decides how we should live because he knows what is best for us. The bible tells us that the price to pay for sin is death because nothing sinful and impure can exist in union with a perfect and Holy God. This is why we are in need of a savior. To pay the price for our sins and to bridge the gap that separated us from God. Because of His great love and desire for relationship with us, God made a rescue plan to bring us back Him, to restore us to His original order. He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, as the perfect sacrifice to pay the price for our sins once and for all.

This is the good news of the Gospel! Jesus Christ bore our sins on the cross. He paid the penalty and took upon the wrath that our sins deserved. He died on the cross, was buried, rose again on the third day, and lives today reigning as our Lord and Saviour. Through Jesus’ saving work on the cross, we are brought back into right relationship with God and adopted into His family. So, now that we know who Jesus is and what He has done for us, what should we do with this information?

In the bible, Jesus tells us that He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one can get to God except through Him (John 14:6 NIV). This means we can’t work our way to God with our own good deeds or by being a good person. There is no other way to get to heaven. The best part is that Jesus has done all the work for you. This is God’s gift to you. All you have to do is believe it in your heart and receive it. You are saved by God’s grace alone.

When you receive Jesus, your eternal destination is secured in heaven but it doesn’t stop there. Salvation is only the beginning! You are saved by grace for a purpose. Fully God and fully man, Jesus lived a perfect and sinless life. He became the model for how we are to live here on earth. We are all here to live and love like Jesus. We are also here to share God’s kingdom with those around us and we each with our own unique ability to do so. My prayer is that you will use the resources here to discover your unique identity and purpose in Christ so that you may obtain all that God has for you. If you are ready to step into your new life in Christ, pray one of the following prayers with me. 🤍

Salvation Prayer

Dear God,

I come to you today asking for forgiveness of all my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son, that He died on the cross for my sins, that I might be forgiven and have eternal life in heaven. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in my heart that you raised Him from the dead. From this day forward, I want to follow Jesus. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Rededication Prayer

Heavenly Father,

I confess that I have sinned and wandered away from you. I ask for your forgiveness. Today I am making the decision to return. I rededicate my soul to you and surrender to your will for my life. I ask that you would search my heart and purge me of the things that are not pleasing to you. Grant me the courage and strength to live in the world but not conform to it. Renew my heart and mind and restore me to the joy of your salvation. This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
